Dynamics and the Second Peak: Cold Dark Matter?
نویسنده
چکیده
The amplitude of the second peak in the angular power spectrum of the cosmic microwave background radiation is constrained to be small by recent experiments like Boomerang. This is surprising in the context of the ΛCDM model, which predicted a large second peak. However, this result is expected if CDM does not exist. The observed shape of the power spectrum was accurately predicted (before the fact) by a model motivated by the surprising recent successes of the modified dynamics (MOND) hypothesized by Milgrom.

A dynamical fossil in the Ursa Minor dwarf spheroidal galaxy
The nearby Ursa Minor dwarf spheroidal (UMi dSph) is one of the most dark matter dominated galaxies known, with a central mass to light ratio M/L ∼ 70. Somewhat anomalously, it appears to contain morphological substructure in the form of a second peak in the stellar number density. It is often argued that this substructure must be transient because it could not survive for the > 10 Gyr age of t...
متن کاملClosed universe and the first Doppler - peak of the CMB spectrum
We study universe models which are intrinsically closed and are full of a quintessence scalar field, besides the Cold Dark Matter component. We use these to depict diverse flat Cold Dark Matter models. With the background geometry specified by the Friedman-Robertson-Walker metric, we include among them the standard Cold Dark Matter, the Cosmological Constant Cold Dark Matter and the Dark Energy...
متن کاملHow Cold Dark Matter Theory Explains Milgrom’s Law
Milgrom noticed the remarkable fact that the gravitational effect of dark matter in galaxies only becomes important where accelerations are less than about 10 cm/s ∼ cH0 (“Milgrom’s Law”). This forms the basis for Modified Newtonian Dynamics (MOND), an alternative to particle dark matter. However, any successful theory of galactic dynamics must account for Milgrom’s Law. We show how Milgrom’s L...
متن کاملConfrontation of Modified Newtonian Dynamics Predictions with Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe First Year Data
I present a model devoid of nonbaryonic cold dark matter (CDM) that provides an acceptable fit to theWilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP) data for the power spectrum of temperature fluctuations in the cosmic background radiation. An a priori prediction of such no-CDM models was a first-to-second peak amplitude ratio A1:2 2:4. WMAP measures A1:2 1⁄4 2:34 0:09. The baryon content is the do...
متن کاملSmall Second Acoustic Peak from Interacting Cold Dark Matter?
We consider a possibility to explain the observed suppression of the second acoustic peak in the anisotropy spectrum of the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) by interaction between a fraction of non-baryonic Cold Dark Matter (CDM) and normal baryonic matter. This scenario does not require any modifications in the standard Big Bang Nucleosynthesis (BBN). We estimate the required values of the cr...
